I have been dancing for salsa for 12 years now.I danced socially in Clubs in New York DC Chicago and Los Angeles for 4 years and went to every Major Salsa Congress in the States and took privates and workshops from some of the best instructors and dancers in the world . I guess you could say this was my 4 years Bachelors degree in Salsa . After 4 years of Vigorous training , I then felt I was ready to teach a beginning class.
Nowadays I see people who took 4 weeks of Beginning class and are still a on a beginner level teaching classes. That's just plain crazy and if you see some of the dancers out here you want to know why they are nowhere on the beat . it's because they are being taught by people who in my opinion have no reason to be teaching classes.
There is no time frame for when some one is ready to teach classes but I am sure it takes more than 4 weeks of taking group classes
