Though we had a great turn out a few people who are labeled as leaders in the Salsa community were nowhere in sight . I was asked all night where this person was or where that person was and i would just look around and say I don't know where they are but they are not here .
Except for Cathy Freeman the organizer of the DC Salsa Meet Up Group, Keith Givens Givens and Mr.Mambo not one other promoter from the so called 79 promoters attended the The Movie Screening of La Epoca or showed for the After party with a Live band ad 3 djs all for just 5.00 . We had a great turnout regardless of the promoters not attending.
I call myself Salsa's no1 Fun dealer , I deal fun not drama but I will also address situations that need to be addressed. Maybe it is a reflection of how the promoters feel about me. If that is the reason so be it . All I have dome in the last 5 years is try to help the DC Salsa scene including the promoters that did not show. I was a little hurt at first but I got over it quickly when Franco told me the total of people who came through the door . I happen to be too sensitive a person who sometimes give things thought that should not be given a thought. I am also a very frank person who says what is on my mind . In the end I don't want any one to come to my events that don't want to be there.
I will do anything for anybody in the Salsa scene that is reasonable and I am a very loyal person, but in return i expect reciprocation . Unfortunately for me I can be very petty and it takes me a while to get over situations when I feel that I am crossed . I have attended and supported every one here. Those days are over.
But looking back on the last 5 years except for a few promoters they have never supported any of SOS events so why should I be surprised at this event.
The DC Salsa Community is in disarray right now . Promoters do not respect each other or support one another . It is total chaos , yes economy is playing a big part on the lack of attendance at events but all the drama has an effect as well . I have been told that I am one of the one's who creates all the drama . They will say me posting this on my Blog is creating drama.
I will say whatever . I am just stating facts and if facts cause drama then I am one of the people who are creating drama

Wow La Epoca Movie Premiere was off the Salsa Mambo Chain
I found the documentary La Epoca to be fascinating . It was informative and entertaining . This is what we call edutainment . A mixture of entertainment and being educated . The Executive producer Josue Joseph did a fantastic job putting this epic documentary together. I also found out hat Josue is also an excellent musician. His father Alfonso" Panameno" Joseph who played with Arsenio Rodriguez Tito Puente and many other greats in the Palladium Era is a living legend.. This gentleman is fascinating and one of the most down to earth people I have ever met . The same can be said abut his wife and Josue's mother Fran. Some felt the film was salsa bashing but I did not think that at all . Well just like asses every one has one
I learned so much in this movie in 2 hours than I have learned in 14 years of Salsa dancing . It was awesome!
It was a surprisingly large turn out for the movies especially in these days and times of DVDs Netflix, Blockbuster and the sort . I cannot remember the last time I sat still for 2 hours and watched a movie or have gone to a movie for that matter
Though we had a great turn out a few people who are labeled as leaders in the Salsa community were nowhere in sight . I was asked all night where this person was or where that person was and i would just look around and say I don't know where they are but they are not here .
I will touch on that subject in my next post we do not want any drama in this post about this awesome Documentary .
It was definitely a night to remember and I was honored to be a party of such a great night . Josue if you are reading this thank you so much for all that you have done to get this movie produced it was a masterpiece

10 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Dance Classes Author: Kevin Shwe
10 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Dance Classes Author: Kevin Shwe

Once you've started your first dance class, it can become an addictive activity and it can become a regular part of your schedule. As well as being fun and a great form of fitness it's great to learn to be able to dance properly like the professionals as well.
Most of the time you will not be told how to make the most out of your dance classes, and as a result many people neglect things which can help them a lot with their dancing. Whereas if you learn HOW to learn and know what things in a dance class you should be paying attention to you can make your learning more effective.
Here are the things which you should be doing in your dance classes to get the most out of them and make the most progress:
1. Treat your dance classes as 'me' time and something you do for yourself. The more you have fun in the dance classes and enjoy yourself, the easier it is for your brain to learn, and besides it's much more fun!
2. Listen to what the dance teacher says, don't just copy them. Many times their words can describe the exact feel of the moves which can be hard to decipher by just watching.
3. Don't feel it's the end of the world if things are not going perfectly. Dance classes can be difficult at times and will stretch you - this is a good thing. If you treat each challenge as something you can master with practise, things can seem a lot less daunting.
4. Try and look exactly like the dance teacher. This includes the exact shapes they are making with their body, hand and feet, body angle, lines, tempo, rhythm and anything else you can pick up on!
5. Perform dance moves full out as much as you can.
6. Breathe while you dance, don't hold your breath!
7. Don't take short cuts. If the teacher shows you the way to do a move, it might seem like a lot of hard work but there'll be a reason they'll be teaching you to do things a certain way.
8. Every dance class and dance style is different. Try and learn every new style as it is without 'flavouring' it with other things you may have learnt in the past. Learn to do it their way. Doing things your way is a separate skill.
9. Focus on what you're doing well, not your shortcomings. Instead practise your weaknesses instead of dwelling upon them.
10. Practise can make perfect (sometimes)!
